DESCRIPTION OF DUTIES: The Public Interest Division of the Office of the Attorney General for the District of Columbia is seeking a staff assistant for its Government Contracts Section (GCS). The GCS defends the District of Columbia in contract cases filed with the District of Columbia Contract Appeals Board (CAB) and general breach of contract and unjust enrichment claims filed in the D.C. Superior Court. The incumbent’s primary responsibility will be to provide substantive administrative and support to the Section Chief and GCS staff which contributes to the effective and efficient operation of the office and/or its Program(s). The incumbent’s duties include:

* Serves as a timekeeper and point of contact for the section regarding all time and attendance issues.

* Reviews and processes on a bi-weekly basis all time and attendance forms and tracks all scheduled leave and absences from the office.

* Prepares and processes requests for purchases orders for the procurement of court reporters, transcripts and experts; timely receipts invoices in PASS; monitors the section’s outstanding procurements and ensures that funds are timely DE obligated.

* Processes mail and distributes to Section Chief and staff members.

* Calendars litigation deadlines, meetings and agency events in Prolaw.

* Inputs new cases in Prolaw.

* Drafts and prepares letters, memos and other correspondence as assigned.

* Responds to inquiries and administrative issues. Notifies the appropriate staff members of the need for information or recommendations and either prepares the response or follows up to ensure a timely response by others.

* Scans and copies litigation documents.

* Serves as a liaison for service delivery.

* Responsible for the ordering, distribution and upkeep of supplies.

* Assists with filing and organizing.

* Assists with compiling reports.

* Properly and timely closes out case files for archiving.

* Performs other clerical and administrative duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS: Candidates must have at least one (1) year of specialized experience equivalent to the CS-11 grade level. Specialized experience is experience directly related to the line of work of the position and has equipped the applicant with particular knowledge, skills, and abilities to successfully perform the duties of the position. To be creditable, at least one (1) year of specialized experience must have been equivalent to at least the next lower grade level in the normal line of progression for the occupation in the organization. Substitution of education will be allowed as defined in OPM’s Qualification Standards. However, in order to receive credit, applicants must submit official proof of educational attainment at the time of application.

Ranking Factor #1: Knowledge of the mission and practices of the Office of the Attorney General (OAG), along with the ability to interact with government officials and the general public.

Ranking Factor #2: Knowledge of and skill in applying office administration principles, methods and practices to maintain the orderly flow of work in the office.

Ranking Factor #3: Proficiency in the use of operating personal computers (PC), utilizing Microsoft Office, including Word, Outlook, Excel, and PowerPoint.

Ranking Factor #4: Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing.
