Job Descriptions:
The Missouri State Teachers Association has an immediate opening for an accounting professional with excellent people skills and attention to detail. The Staff Accountant is responsible for several accounting functions including reconciling and generating various reports, preparing journal entries, maintaining and reconciling various general ledger accounts and participating in monthly and year-end accounting processes.
A membership organization of over 46,000, MSTA’s accounting department has a staff of five full-time employees and is critical in processing and maintaining an accurate membership database. The Staff Accountant also works with two related 501(c)(3) organizations and a political action committee.

Duties & Responsibilities:
Analyze and apply dues to the proper fiscal year
Process membership packets, new memberships and payments related to memberships
Evaluate NimbleAMS database to identify missing records and update new information, research refunds and cancellations, etc
Work with school district payroll departments and local chapters to ensure timely and accurate payments
Generate necessary reports from Nimble
Responsible for ensuring rosters for local chapters are accurate and work with local chapters to ensure accuracy
Audit membership payments for accuracy
Enter receivables in Intacct including sending invoices and statements
Balance various accounts in Intacct on a monthly basis, including preparing necessary journal entries
Enter deposits for Friends of Bunker Hill from reservation tickets
Assist with preparing deposits for MSTA, Friends of Bunker Hill and MSTF
Assist with annual audit preparations
Assist with preparation of financial statements
Performs other duties as assigned
Cooperates with all MSTA staff and encourages them to effectively serve association members.
Required Experience:
Any combination of education and experience providing the required skill and knowledge is qualifying. Typical qualifications would be equivalent to:
Education/Experience:
Bachelor’s or Associate’s degree in Accounting
Previous accounting experience preferred
Skills and Abilities:
Skilled in the use of computer/electronic file management including MS Windows, word processing, spreadsheet, and e-mail computer applications.
Good general knowledge of accounting principles and practices
Basic skills in the use of Excel
Proficient in the use of MSTA’s accounting software
Respond to common inquiries or complaints from association members, state agencies, or members of the business community.
Read and comprehend complex instructions, correspondence, and memos.
Write simple correspondence.
Effectively present information in one-on-one situations to association members, vendors and other employees of the organization.
Listen and speak in person on the phone with association members and other MSTA employees.
Read, write, speak and comprehend English fluently.
Add and subtract two digit numbers and to multiply and divide with 10’s and 100’s.
