Junior Information Security Analyst 204 views

Support VCU’s Information Security program by performing intrusion detection and incident response duties. Function as part of the information security operations team and analyze security events and declare and triage security incidents. Coordinate with internal and external stakeholders and incident responders to properly identify, contain, and eradicate threats. Coordinate with and assist IT and business units to recover from security incidents. Develop and track metrics around security events and incidents, and provide reports to security management on security operations. Assist in training and provide security operations guidance to part-time and student staff. Other duties include assisting the security operations team in vulnerability management operations, IT risk management operations, and training efforts.

For FY2018, the Junior Information Security Analyst have the following prioritized goals:

•Develop and track security metrics for security events and incidents

•Perform IT risk assessments; including system assessments, unit assessments, and third party assessments

Required Qualifications

•Knowledge of relevant laws, regulations, standards, guidelines and best practices

•Basic to intermediate knowledge of computer operating systems

•Basic to intermediate knowledge of computer networking protocols

•Basic to intermediate knowledge of cyberattack and defensive methodologies applicable to an enterprise environment

•Basic to intermediate knowledge of scripting languages

•Excellent written and verbal communication skills

•Excellent analytical skills and problem solving skills

•Excellent organizational skills, including the ability to effectively handle multiple tasks and deadlines

•Excellent interpersonal skills, including the ability to communicate technical concepts to non-technical audiences

•Ability to work successfully in a diverse work environment, in teams and independently with technical and non-technical individuals

•Ability to quickly acquire new skills and knowledge

Preferred Qualifications

•Basic to intermediate technical experience working with two of the three following security domains is strongly preferred: systems development security, network security and computer operations security

•Bachelor’s degree in information systems, computer science or related discipline is preferred

•CISA, CIA , GSNA , CISSP or GSEC certifications are preferred

•Experience working in a university setting is preferred

$48,000 – $53,000
