As part of the transformation and growth of its world-class compliance program, Vertex is seeking an experienced compliance professional to lead its U.S. Compliance Business Partners team and to assist the Chief Compliance Officer in setting and implementing the strategic vision of the Compliance Office.
Vertex’s Compliance Office serves as the primary contact for Vertex employees, shareholders, business partners, patients and the general public on issues relating to the implementation of and compliance with Vertex’s Code of Conduct globally. The Office is accountable for supervising, coordinating and continuously improving Vertex’s Compliance Program (“Program”). This includes defining compliance standards via policies and procedures, compliance training and communications, auditing and monitoring, facilitating internal reporting, compliance-related investigations, and keeping the Executive Committee and the Audit Committee of the Board of Directors informed on compliance matters.
Reporting directly to the Chief Compliance Officer, the Head of U.S. Compliance Business Partners will lead a team of experienced and highly-motivated compliance professionals charged with providing compliance business partner support for the Research, Clinical, Medical, Quality, Regulatory, and Commercial departments. The Head of U.S. Compliance Business Partners will also assist in the development and implementation of an effective compliance program for all business activities within the Company; support the compliance risk assessment process to continuously evaluate risk areas and priorities to guide future efforts of the Compliance Office; and work closely with the Global Compliance Operations team to ensure consistent and global application and implementation of compliance policies and controls, training, monitoring, and auditing.
The duties of the Head of U.S. Compliance Business Partners include:
Lead the U.S. Compliance Business Partners team, which provides compliance business partner support for the Commercial and R&D organizations.
Depending on prior experience and qualifications, serve as the primary Compliance Business Partner for either the Commercial organization or the R&D organizations in the United States. Provide compliance oversight, guidance and direction to all relevant employees, key stakeholders and leadership teams. Partner with cross-functional teams to collaborate, negotiate and drive fact- and risk-based decision making. Assist teams in identifying areas where compliance input and escalation is required and ensure consistency in the application of criteria across the Company.
Assist with the day-to-day management of the Compliance Office, including providing strategic direction and oversight.
Partner with the Global Compliance Operations team to establish standards and implement procedures to ensure that the Compliance Program is effective and efficient in identifying, preventing, detecting, and correcting noncompliance with applicable rules and regulations. Assist the Global Compliance Operations team to manage and continuously assess, develop, manage and enhance compliance strategy, policies, and processes to ensure Company conduct is in accordance with global regulatory requirements, industry guidance, and leading practices.
Assist the Global Compliance Operations team in designing and delivering appropriate, risk-based training programs, internal communications, policies, SOPs, guidelines and other materials. Provide guidance to Global Compliance Operations team on areas to periodically assess for effectiveness, audit or monitor. #LI-AO1
