The San Joaquin Valley Air Pollution Control District is searching for two (2) part-time Air Quality Education Representatives who will assist the District’s Outreach & Communications Department with media relations, communications and public relations/marketing. The current vacancies are located in the Fresno Office.
Air quality education representatives participate in outreach activities such as marketing and advertising campaigns, educational activities, workshops, and special events; plan, coordinate, write, edit and oversee a variety of outreach materials such as newsletters, technical documents, informational brochures, and videos; respond to public and media inquiries regarding District regulations, permit processes, enforcement, legal authority, and air quality conditions; develop and implement communication strategies; coordinate the dissemination of air quality advisories and air alert information to radio, television, social media and newspaper publications as well as the public; assist with media relations, participate in news conferences, and prepare news releases; and provide support to other departments throughout the District while demonstrating the District’s S.T.A.R. work culture of Service, Teamwork, Attitude and Respect.
The ideal candidate will have very strong writing and editing skills including the ability to understand complex issues and communicate those to the public; the candidate must possess basic computer skills and knowledge in Microsoft Excel is desirable. The individual selected will work approximately 20 hours per week and will periodically need to work evenings and weekends.

Requires a bachelor’s degree in communications, journalism, marketing, advertising, or a closely related discipline. Candidates must submit acceptable documentation of all degrees/education claimed on their application, prior to an offer of employment. Experience in the public information or communications profession may be substituted for the education to a maximum of two (2) years.
Must possess a valid California Driver License and meet the automobile insurability requirements of the District. Prior to consideration for hire, recommended candidates must submit a California Department of Motor Vehicles driver printout, sign a waiver to release all information regarding current and past employment history and complete a conflict of interest form.
